Here is a fabulous piece from my collection. This is my rare Gretsch Electromatic Western Cowboy Amp. It's been in my collection for many years, and was almost impossible to find.
The price is $xxxx.
She sounds great and strong. Runs and idles quiet. This model has the big and toneful 15-inch speaker, and the 5-inch speaker. (not the less desirable elliptical speakers). This Electromatic Western Cowboy Amp has the best well preserved and least faded Longhorn Steer on the Grill that I have ever seen. Definitely all original chassis components, transformer, choke, metal tubes, speakers, speaker cones (no repairs), coverings, grill and handle. There are two (2) Tung-Sol xxxx power tubes, two (2) 6SJ7 black metal tubes, one (1) 6SC7 black metal tube, one (1) 6SQ7 black metal tube, one (1) Tung-Sol 6AX5GT tube, two (2) Mallory caps. The original transformer has the correct transformer code of E-xxxx and xxxx05 that are found on other Gretsch Electromatic Cowboy amps if you Google ?Gretsch Electromatic Western Speaker? and click on ?images? on the tool bar and scroll down. The xxxxs paper envelope from the Gretsch factory containing the unused spare 2-amp fuse is still stapled to the wood inside the cabinet. It?s a straight amp, indeed. Museum worthy for sure. There is not a lot of information on xxxxs Gretsch amps. The Gretschpages and Provide dot-net websites are about the most informative resources. Here is pertinent info on this amp according to Gretschpages website. These late '50s "Electromatic" amps have a very distinctive appearance, especially with the wrap-around speaker grill many models adopted. (The early 50s Electromatics were tweeds, not Western style). It should be noted that "Electromatic" does not refer to any particular amp, but instead refers to the range of amps, just as Synchromatic or Electromatic do not refer to a particular Gretsch guitar. During this period the amps were also offered in "Chet Atkins" trim, covered in white with brown leather decoration These are often referred to as Western or Cowboy amps. Dating Gretsch and other Valco-made amps: Beginning in xxxx, serial numbers were on a small oblong metal plate (brass or aluminum) tacked on with two small brass nails. All Valco-made instruments and amps were numbered this way until xxxx. According to the Gretschpages, relevant Gretsch Date Codes from the xxxxs are as follows: Serial Numbers Xxxxx0-Xxxxx0: xxxx. The small oblong metal plate on this particular sweet amp of mine bears the number Xxxxx4 which translates to an early xxxx manufacture date. Provide Net dot come states: Note the use of "550" as a source code on these products. Actually, it's not a source code but is a manufacturers code for all National, Valco, Supro products, including those used in Gretsch amp, and the 550 is stamped on speakers from xxxx through the 50's and 60's as a second stamping. The 550-15 code on the 15-inch speaker of this particular amp indicates that it is a correct ?550? manufacturer code for National, Valco, Supro and Gretsch, and that the 15-inch speaker is original to the amp. The 550-1 code stamped on the frame 5-inch speaker of this particular amp indicates that it is a correct ?550? manufacturer code for National, Valco, Supro and Gretsch, and that the 5-inch speaker is original to the amp. It is also the correct and identical 5-inch speaker and speaker code found on other Gretsch Electromatic Cowboy amps I have examined. What I do know is the combination of the original Gretsch 15-inch and 5-inch speakers in this amazing Cowboy Amp sounds surprisingly awesome and strong. You might find other smaller Electromagnetics, but not this Big Cowboy Amp. It sounds like it should. Sounds better than my Fender tweed Pro. And, ofcourse its MoJo is unsurpassed. Sounds awesome with my strats and old Gibsons. It is a must have with your xxxxs Gretch guitar (Round-up, Country Gentleman, DuoJet or Falcon - or vintage strat). She sounds great and rocks! She is a crown jewel in the collection.
