The position requires the ability to seamlessly integrate with all resources as the teams, clients, and resources are in a matrixed organization and geographically dispersed across the globe. 16-xxxx7_ Software Development Engineer, Global Platform Organization Apply!& Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Software Development Engineer, Global Platform Organization works with a talented team responsible for developing the content processing system that supports a variety of health research products. This includes the Ovid family of search platforms (Ovid, OvidMD, Nursing@Ovid, OvidToday) and Lippincott Williams Wilkins (LWW) journal and book publications. These products are used every day by doctors, nurses and researchers to improve the care given to patients as well as aid in the search for new cures and drugs to increase quality of life. This is a dynamic software engineering position where you will be developing, designing and testing content processing systems using leading edge technologies. Primary activities will involve XSLT and .NET development in a variety of cloud-based environments to support a portfolio of high-profile complex web-based and mobile applications. You will be part of a Scrum team that is empowered to do rapid development in an environment of continual improvement. You will join this group of dedicated professionals building enhancements and new features in a vital piece of our technology used globally by medical professionals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This is a hand-on development position requiring the ability to learn new technologies and adapt them to practical applications. As a senior developer you will contribute to architecture and design decisions and provide mentorship to junior members of the team. The ability to contribute as a member of a self-managed team is vital. You will be expected to leverage your experience both in producing high quality code as well as mentoring and facilitating the same from other members of the team. •Design, analyze, develop, code, debug, test and document programming to satisfy requirement for large, complex projects •Work directly with product management and business teams during envisioning •Provide leadership in advancing the vision of the product team •Contribute to best practices, quality standards and conventions, incorporating them into the development process •Drive process improvement •Help to establish consensus on deliverable commitments •Help to select and implement applicable hardware, software, platforms, tools, and programming languages •Develop any necessary standards or guidelines for development •Lead design sessions and participate in technical design decisions and ensuring that those are implemented accurately •Facilitate design/code reviews •Ensure the quality, security, stability and agility of systems architecture to meet evolving business needs •Use test driven development and scaled Agile methods •Participate regularly in Scrum activities OTHER DUTIES Communicate risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies to appropriate stakeholders and escalate if necessary to ensure the project’s success. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors degree or higher in a technically oriented field preferably Computer Science, which is preferred but will consider candidates in an equivalent discipline or those with relevant experience in a related field. Experience: • Minimum 6 years of proven application design and development experience • Minimum 5+ years professional experience with one or all of the following: XML, XSLT, XQUERY, XPATH, with XSLT preferred • Minimum 5+ years professional experience with one or more of the following: C#, ASP.NET, .NET • Minimum 2 years in a senior role or leadership position on a development team • Integral Understanding of Object Oriented Design, XSD (Schema) Development, as well as DTD • Understanding of Schema Design Patterns, and/or Object Oriented Design Patterns • Understanding with some experience applying design patterns (eg MVC, dependency injection, factory pattern) • Strongly prefer understanding of XSLT Best Practices • Experience applying design patterns (MVC, dependency injection, factory pattern) • Understanding of improving performance of complex applications • Understanding of integration with cloud environments, and strongly prefer experience Azure • Understanding of SQL programming skills with SQL Server • Experience with web development using one or all of the following: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, JQUERY, and JSON • Experience with one or all of the following: build automation, continuous integration, and source code branching strategies • Experience with application and database data modeling • Excellent communication and presentation skills to interact with business teams and communicate technical vision to the development team.
